1. "I'm the King of the world!" (Titanic, 1997)
Jack Dawson played by Leornado Dicaprio compared himself to a king of the world in the movie which is funny if it was taken literally since he was a very poor man. No poor man can be a King. He described his joy and emotions going on the enormous Titanic ship is like a King.
2. "I'm Joy, this is Sadness, that's Anger, this is Disgust and That's Fear. We're Riley's emotions" (Inside Out, 2015)
The movie is a metaphor for human emotions and intellectual feelings. Each color represents one emotion that we feel similar to how the main character Riley’s emotions depend on the emotions or actions of Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust, and Sadness who live in Headquarters, a metaphor for the brain and advise her through everyday life.
3. "Cause, baby, you‘re a firework.." (Firework by Katy Perry)
Katy’s anthem of self-love is a great example of metaphors and similes. The overarching metaphor is that everyone is a firework: unique, special, and capable of doing great things.
4. "Making up a song about Coraline, she's a peach, she's a doll, she's a pal of mine.." (Coraline, 2009)
The song lyrics had obviously compared Caroline to a peach and a doll to describe the character of Coraline herself which is ever so pleasing to him.
5. "So I figured out the world was one big machine.." (Big Machine, 2011)
The boy had substitute that the entire world is like one big machine that does not comes with an extra part. Thus, he discovered that he is not the 'extra part' in this world by realising that he need to find reason to live in this big machine.
6. "What did the cherry tree with white lace makes you think of?..A white bride, of course!" (Anne With an E, 2017)
Anne had personified the cherry tree as her friend while at the same time she compared the tree to a bride, all in white with a lacy dress and veils in her imagination.
